Aadhar kendra sponsorship programme field worker visited Lahuís house as a part of home visit, after visiting his house field worker had interaction with Lahuís mother she says that one year before Lahuís father had Paralysis attack and now he is not able to move his body he is totally bed redden. With Lahuís mother being uneducated she work as maid servant and earns only Rs 700 / - per month, with Lahuís father and her own medical expenses and other house hold expenses to feed all six members of the family the money earned by Lahuís mother is insufficient. Lahuís house is made up of tin sheets with tin roof on it. Considering his family's situation, we (with the permission of his family) have moved Lahu to City of Child, Kasurdi. City of Child is a serene place for living, loving and learning. Located in 14 acres of farmland in Kasudi, 45km from Pune, City of Child has been designed to provide a safe place for destitute women and children. The land was purchased by Deep Griha Society in 1995. It was initially used for agriculture until sufficient funds had been raised to start construction. Lahu seems to have settled down there pretty well.

The Ramtekadi area, where the family stays, is situated on the periphery of the city of Pune. It has an approximate population of 40,000. It is relatively well structured and is recognized by the government. As a result, it has basic amenities that communities like this require living in a concentrated mass. Deep Griha has been working here since 1979.

The Aadhar Kendra (meaning support center in Marathi) programme was designed to see to the education of the child, it is our responsibility to see that his or her academic life is not overshadowed by the concerns and circumstances of home. The AK programme also reassures the family that we are committed to see the child educated. Most often the financial burden of school, the costs it involves make the family stop educating their child/children. Where the next meal comes from takes precedence over buying schoolbooks or pens etc. This is understandable, that is why we provide for all the child's educational needs, thus taking the pressure of the family. The child will also receive free nutrition at our nutrition centre and also free medical care and regular medical check ups. The family will also be assisted during any time of crisis.

We strive towards the holistic development of the children and we will do our best to make sure that they have every available opportunity before them. We hope that you will work with us, as we try to make a difference in their future.
