Weekly e-Gram for members and friends of Dublin Community Church

April 8, 2011

I have been thinking about this 200th Anniversary thing for about five years, ever since I came to Dublin Community Church. So have a lot of others. It has been so much a part of the things we do each day and week. But for many, it is just a special Sunday there on the calendar.

I was at a city of Dublin meeting recently and I mentioned to some of the city officials that our Church, the Church which sits squarely in the center of the historic district of Dublin is 200 years old. They paused, trying to take in the significance of 200. Frankly I think they paused to see if they heard me correctly… was it 200? or did I just say 20? I repeated that we had been in existence for 200 years.

We will have a number of previous ministers present. I have no doubt that a number of previous members and friends will be present also, besides our current members. For those of you who attend worship this Sunday, April 10, here is a question which I hope you keep uppermost in your mind... “What is it that the previous ministers remember about this church?”

We know that in politics or sports or within families, a certain incident is seen, perceived, and remembered in different ways. No, there will not be any disputing what people remember this Sunday, but it will be interesting to see how our former ministers remember Dublin Community Church. What specific stories will they tell us? If you listen to each speak, you just might get a hear something you never considered about your church. All who speak have a deep love for this church and they come to share it.

I trust you will also. Many of our old friends will come and realize that Dublin Community Church has lots of new members. The church outlives the individuals but it is the life of Christ, which gave life to it in the first place. Still does. We move into another century of service giving thanks for those who have come along before us.

Sunday worship… 10 am. Potluck to follow. At 11 am, we officially begin Century #3.

Peace, Rev. Bob Tussing
